Welcome to the G8JCFSDR

Welcome to the G8JCFSDR Forum where users of the G8JCFSDR s/w meet up to discuss, ask questions, seek support and (hopefully) get to know each other.

The G8JCFSDR is a Software Defined Radio, SDR, which uses RF front-end hardware to down-convert RF frequencies into the 0~384 KHz range accepted by PC soundcards; all Soundcards accept 48KHz, most 96KHz, some 192KHz, rarely 384KHz. This down-conversion is the equivalent of the IF in a conventional superheterodyne h/w receiver.

The PC reads in the soundcard signal and carries out all of the filtering, demodulation, AGC, notch filtering and so much more in software rather than hardware as would be the case in a conventional receiver. Because the receiver is all software, there are things you can do which would be almost impossible in h/w.

The G8JCFSDR runs on Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10/11, and using WINE on x86 LINUX, and using BOX86+WINE will run on even a Raspberry Pi - see below.

The G8JCFSDR works with very many SDR H/W front-ends, eg FiFiSDR, Pappradio V1 & V2, PMSDR, Elektor SDR, DRT1, DRB30, DRB32, Soft66AD(M), Lazy Dog LD1, EXTIO_*.DLL supported H/W

Special support has been built in for Burkhard Kainka's ELEKTOR 3/2004, 5/2007, 7/2016, Ulf Schneider's DRT1, and the NTI DRB30/32, & the PappradioV1 hardware down-converters. The G8JCFSDR will also work with home-brew IQ and NON-IQ Receivers using AD9835/AD9850/AD9851/AD9951 DDS Chips, and with CY27EE16 PLL generators. Full USB support using FTDI US232C RS232/USB converters is supported with full high-speed Bit-Bang mode.

Burkhard Kainka's ELEKTOR 7/2016 aka SDR Reloaded H/W is available from Elektor for about EUR 35 - the best Elektor SDR so far.

Ulf Schneider's front-end H/W is unfortunately NO LONGER available from sat-schneider .

Rudolf Ille's excellent fully boxed down-converter, the DRB30 and the even better DRB32 is available from NTI DRB30 for about EUR 400-00

If you come across a DRT1 secondhand, snap it up !! The DRT1is a very high performance 0~30MHz to 45MHz IF to 12KHz final IF down-converter.

The NTI DRB30/32 are very similar in performance and come in a nice enclosure, again if you come across a secondhand unit, snap it up !!

The PMSDR is a really excellent SDR, but unfortunately no longer available.

The installer is located in the Downloads section of this forum, and the Quick Start Guide is also available from the Downloads section.

Please feel free to post suggestions for improvements and/or requests for support in the Messages section of the G8JCFSDR forum.
